Trend Forecasting: Fish
I can’t really put my finger on why other that I love the oddity of it: fish.
Perhaps it comes from the pull of the ocean, the mysterious world humans will never inhabit. I’m going to offer design advice: you need a random fish piece to offset your home decor. I’m not even a fan of fish. Truth be told it was only this year that I began to allow fish back into my diet after a 10 year stint on hormones and finding the smell and taste revolting. I still cannot stomach a fishy fish.
Also, the mere thought of catching one is mind numbing —the sheer boredom of “fishing”. Sitting there on the bank, silently waiting (my dad always shushed me as a child), to rip the poor thing from its life in the lake, pond, river, ocean, only to be tossed back with a gaping hole in its cheek or fried up for dinner.
However, I saw a fish-shaped tray today that sent me on a fishing expedition of my own.
I love collecting random objects that offer a bit of humor and whimsy. It’s the perfect thing to buy at a random shop and incorporate onto your stacks of books or on your shelving. To hold your doodads, keys, jewerly, or whatnots. Our bookshelves are filled with such treasures and it’s an easy way to add personality to your home.
For all the fellow fishheads out there, here are some fun fish objects to adorn your shelves, add joy to your kitchen tablescape, and jazz up any outfit.
Symbology
The fish is a symbol for success or wealth, or the desire for them.
The Hidden Language of Symbols
French sculptors and husband-and-wife duo Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne have given the art/design world many wonderful surreal pieces like their seagull canopy bed, ostrich bar, rhino desk, and famous sheep. Animals feature prominently in their work. They also designed these giant sardine pillows.
